Whether you’re a first time crafter or you’ve been crafting for years, sometimes your project won’t turn out the way you want it to. This post is dedicated to all you first timers. It’s important to know that sometimes you might fail, but you just have to keep going and try again.
A while back, I tried a classic DIY with glass bottles that I had been collecting from local thrift-stores and Goodwill’s. The whole process was a total mess and the end result was not pretty. I was so upset that I put all the bottles to the side and didn’t look back. However, a few days ago I came across the ruined bottles. I knew I didn’t want to throw them away, but I wasn’t sure what to do. I ended up using my leftover materials from previous projects as inspiration and came up with this.
Before
Bottle #1
Paint the entire bottle with one color, in this case I used a metallic gold spray paint.
Take 1 inch painters tape and place them horizontally near the bottom of the bottle. This will protect the layer of gold that was painted first.
Spray paint the entire bottle with different color, in this case I used a matte black.
Once the paint has dried, tear the painters tape off to reveal the gold.
Bottle #2
Again, spray paint the entire bottle gold.
Take some string and warp it around the bottle in no particular order.
To keep the string in place, use a piece of scotch tape and secure one end of the string to the bottom of the bottle.
Once you have wrapped the string tightly around the bottle, take another piece of tape and secure the other end of the string inside of the bottle.
Spray paint the entire bottle matte black.
Once the paint has dried, remove the tape and unwrap the string to reveal the gold.
Bottle #3
I used a similar technique for the third bottle.
Instead of painting the bottle first with gold, spray paint it black.
Wrap the bottom of the bottle with the same string.
Free hand the gold paint on the bottom of the bottle, this will give it the gradient affect.
Once the paint has dried, remove the tape and unwrap the string to reveal the black.
After
Materials
Glass Bottles + Spray Paint (2 Colors) + Scotch Tape + String + Painters Tape + Scissors
That looks awesome! I definitely want to try doing this soon!
