Valentine’s day is right around the corner and if you’re looking for a thoughtful gift that is quick, affordable and easy, I have the project for you! This gift is a customizable wall art that can be given to a significant other, friend, mom, dad, teacher, sibling, neighbor, or really anyone! If you’re reading this, you have definitely been procrastinating on what to get for your valentine, so let’s get this started.
Paint or stain the wood with the color of your choice; use the foam brush if you stain the wood, and use the paint brush if you paint the wood.
You can always leave the wood raw, but I wanted to add a bit of color so I used wood stain and a little bit of gold guild.
Use a piece of paper and pencil to create a template. I made two of these, on the first one I drew a heart and on the second I wrote out “love”.
Center the paper on the wood and hammer in the first nail.
You can tape the paper down to hold it in place, or just hammer your first nail in the middle of the paper and your paper’s not going anywhere.
Hammer in the nails an inch apart along the template.
Take the yarn and tie a knot to one of the nails towards the beginning or the end.
Thread the yarn back and forth through each nail making sure to go around the entire nail so the yarn is secure.
When you are satisfied with the yarn placement, tie a knot.
To finish it off tear the paper out and you’re done!
Foam Brush or Paint Brush
Make sure your nails aren’t too long; If it is, the nail will stick out on the back of the wood once you hammer it in. The amount of nails depends on what you write out and how far you want to separate the nails.
Wood Stain or Paint
Any shape or size you prefer. Tip: Buy a slab of wood from Home Depot for less than $10 and they can cut it for you for free!
You can customize this project for any occasion by creating your own unique template or changing the color of yarn or paint you use!
